Authorities in the nation’s capital say they have arrested a man with a machete and swastikas emblazoned on his truck near the city’s Democratic National Committee headquarters.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Department told Fox News the arrest was made Sunday and the suspect, who was not identified, was taken into custody after “brandishing a weapon.”
Akai Gurley, a 27-year-old father of two, was fatally shot by police two years ago in New York while out shopping with his girlfriend.
On the same day Gurley was killed, a man stabbed four people, killing one, before being shot and killed by police in New Jersey. A fake bomb threat led to evacuations in Atlanta and a car crash left two dead in Atlanta.
More than a year later, in July 2016, someone drove a white van filled with bomb-making materials across Washington and crashed it into the Museum of Natural History.
Two members of Congress were the only ones inside when the van was pulled over by police. Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) said investigators still haven’t determined whether the attacks were related.
