Celtic saw their unbeaten start to the season come to an end as they were held by Manchester United at Parkhead.
The Gers, who had come away from Astana under fire for their 2-0 Europa League loss, hit back thanks to Ryan Christie’s goal.
United had gone a goal behind in the third minute as Joe Hart could only parry Alexis Sanchez’s attempt at goal. James McClean was in the right place at the right time to turn the ball back into the goal.
Celtic didn’t manage to muster an effort on target in the opening period and Hart was fortunate when he blocked Alexis Sanchez’s strike on the line from a rare United attack.
James Forrest thought he had given the hosts the lead just before the break when he fired through the onrushing David de Gea but the goalkeeper saved at his feet.
Christie then fired a stunning effort past De Gea to bring the scores level after just 42 seconds of the second half. Anthony Ralston laid the ball back to Christie who made no mistake from close range after good work from Florian Kamberi.
Celtic finished strongly and had their goalkeeper Hart to thank for denying Anthony Martial twice, first with his legs after the Frenchman was put clean through on goal before diving low to keep out a free-kick with his feet.
However, it was United who struck in stoppage time, Anthony Martial firing in off the far post from just inside the penalty area after fine work by Jesse Lingard.
